UltraSoC CEO Rupert Baines has put together an interesting blog article which talks about ensuring SoC reliability via on-chip analytics and monitoring. The article follows on from the recent announcement that Moortec and UltraSoC are collaborating to enable next-generation “smart” PVT sensors.

UltraSoC’s digital monitoring and optimization capabilities have been combined with Moortec’s leading PVT products to enable real improvements in SoC performance and reliability. In Rupert’s blog he discusses intelligent on-chip, long-term SoC reliability monitoring, SoC load balancing and power management.

These practical applications illustrate a wider point about SoC design – particularly at advanced process nodes. The days are over when it was possible to assume that SoCs are ideal digital devices. Today’s devices are complex quasi-analog systems. Performance can vary greatly from chip-to-chip. So, more than ever, SoC architects and designers need to understand the real-world behavior of their devices, and the partnership between Moortec and UltraSoC will allow them to do just that.
