The 17th Silicon Gorge Cup five-a-side football tournament kicked off yesterday at the Goals Soccer Centre just outside Bristol and this year Moortec entered a team for the first time.
The Silicon Gorge Cup is the biggest football tournament for the UK’s electronics design community and is organised by Mentor Graphics. It was started back in 2000 by engineers working for the fabless semiconductor companies in the Bristol Gorge area.
The standard of football was very high and even though the Moortec team fought valiantly we sadly did not come home with any silverware. We did however excel in the penalty shoot-out and the “hit the crossbar” competition.
21 teams took part but it was Cirrus Logic who were crowned champions. After the presentations the day was rounded off with a barbeque and some well-earned beers.
We had a fantastic day and would like to say a big thank you to Mentor Graphics for organising such a great event and we would also like congratulate Cirrus Logic on their victory.
Who knows we may just recover in time to take part in next year’s tournament!
