The 19th Silicon Gorge Cup five-a-side football tournament kicked off yesterday at the Goals Soccer Centre just outside Bristol. Moortec entered a team who made the journey from Plymouth accompanied by an enthusiastic army of supporters!
The Silicon Gorge Cup is the biggest football tournament for the UK’s electronics design community and is organised by Mentor Graphics. It began back in 2000 when a group of engineers working for the fabless semiconductor companies in the Bristol Gorge area decided to put on a small local tournament. It has since grown into a national competition attracting teams from all over the country.
As in previous years the standard of football was exceptionally high and even though the Moortec team put in a solid performance we sadly did not come home with the trophy.
This year a record 24 teams took part but once again it was Cirrus Logic B who were crowned champions. After the presentations the day was rounded off with a barbeque and some well-earned beers in the sunshine.
Both the Moortec players and supporters had a fantastic day and would like to say a huge thank you to Mentor Graphics for organising such a great event.
We are already looking forward to next year’s tournament!
